2021 Mahindra Bolero Neo Drive Review: A No-Nonsense SUV

The Bolero Neo is powered by a 100PS 1.5-liter diesel engine that drives the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.

New Delhi: India’s most beloved SUV, for which the huge sales numbers do the talking itself! Or is it the facelifted version of TUV300 that has failed to impress the audience and now has made a comeback under the already proven Badge of Bolero. Well, we were confused so here we are reviewing the car to find out the real identity of the Mahindra bolero Neo.

The Design of the car looks like TUV 300 but with a couple of bolero elements to it, face of the car features the static bending headlamps with DRLs & follow me home headlamps. The signature Mahindra Grill and the bumper get a new sloppy slide in the middle, from the side the car does resemble the boxy structure of TUV 300 and looks compact, but the body has dropped down 20mm.

The square wheel arch makes the car look edgy and compliments the new alloy design. The rubber cladding on the side adds the bolero factor. At the rear, the X-shaped spare wheel cover re-instates the bolero branding! And why should not they, it’s been Mahindra’s bread and butter.

For urban customers, Mahindra offers a 7inch touchscreen infotainment system available in top-end variant N10 which connects to your phone via Bluetooth.

The interiors are tastefully done but basic with enough spare space. For comfort, it’s got an armrest in the front and middle row, with enough headspace. For child safety, it has ISOFIX seat mounts. 

The Bolero Neo is powered by a 100PS 1.5-liter diesel engine that drives the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. Bolero Neo is built on the 3rd generation chassis shared with Scorpio & Thar with the mhawk100 engine churning 73.5 kW (100 BHP) power & 260 Nm torque.

Drive quality is decent but not as cushy as its car-based rivals and does get bouncy & bumpy. For safety, there are dual airbags, ABS with EBS, and cornering brake control.

The Bolero Neo gets additional driving features such as mechanical locking differential & cruise control, but the steering wheel is on the heavier side at parking and low speeds.

Some important features are missing like climate control, Android Auto / Apple CarPlay, rear a/c vents, good speakers, auto-dimming IRVM, etc. 

It is as rugged as the boleros have been in the past better equipped, drives better, is more modern, has more tech which is a great selling point. 

It might not be the best-looking car on the road but definitely gets the job done!
