The first generation of Hector was launched in 2019, introducing the brand Morris Garages in India for the first time.
There were a lot of expectations from the brand since it entered directly in the most competitive and popular segment in the country. About two years later now they have done a good job of spreading their wings in the Indian Market.
The brand has spoiled the customers with so many options and variants. Just talking about the Hector which comes in nine colours and gives the option to the customers to choose between 5-, 6- and 7-seater as per their requirement. However, that’s not it, there are two engine options as well, 1.5 turbocharged petrol and 2.0 Diesel engine with three kinds of transmission, manual, DCT, and CVT. Other than all this, there are variant options too, like shine, super, smart and sharp, phew! Yes, there are too many options available, but don’t get overwhelmed, here we are just reviewing the 2021 Hector, 5-seater, petrol CVT top-of-the-line model.
Design: Making it more suitable for the urban generation, the front of the car has been toned down a bit, the grill has been reworked with the chrome frame around it, it’s not in your face anymore. There’s a lot of chrome updates, the lower section of the bumper gets a 360-degree camera and parking sensors. The presence of LED DRLS with floating light turns indicators, LED fog lamps heated ORVMs, chrome finish on window beltline, outside door handles and side body cladding, The rear spoiler, and the 18-inch dual-tone machined alloys makes the car look really sharp.
The Interiors of the car is done tastefully with premium leather dual tone finish and leather wrapped steering wheel. The cabin experience is enhanced by 8 Colours Ambient Lighting and the key feature of 17.8 cm coloured digital multi-info display which supports: navigation input, tyre pressure display, music input, calling input, vehicle speed, drive time with fatigue reminder setting, trip meter, instant FE & average FE- distance to Empty and much more.
The drive quality is nice at low speeds because of soft suspension but high-speed stability is not the best because of the soft suspension and there’s plenty of weight and body load on this car. The car is not meant to push its limits, but it drives best in the mid-range.
Apart from this, the steering is so light that you can actually twirl it with 1 finger. However, the car does feel like it could use bigger tyres. All the power of the car is channelled to front wheels, its front-wheel drive, don’t have a 4×4 in it yet. The rivals offer bigger tyres but even they are front-wheel drive like the Seltos, Creta, Alcazar, Harrier.
City Drives are smooth and the cabin noise is also well insulated. The CVT engine present in the Hector is faster and smoother than the DCT which is great. It’s very relaxed, spacious, practical, but on the highways, the car asks you leaving for, better handling, better high-speed stability, sturdier steering wheel, less body roll, and faster gear shifts. Having said that, the overall package suggests that it’s a great value for money proposition, with the CVT gearbox the fuel efficiency has increased than before.
Safety is taken care of with six airbags, the usual electronic nannies like ABS and ESP, and a segment-first, fatigue-warning alarm.
