Citroen has partnered with CK Birla Group in India this car has been assembled at their plant in Chennai. It comes as CKD.

New Delhi: Citroen’s Global flagship model SUV C5 Air cross, Citroen first entered the Indian automobile market back in 1994 when it partnered with Premier Automobiles Ltd.

They were not very successful then, selling very limited Peugeot (puh zhote) I’m not sure if any of you remember that car but this time, we are hopeful that the French brand is better prepared and has come back with products more suitable for the Indian market.

Citroen has partnered with CK Birla Group in India this car has been assembled at their plant in Chennai. It comes as CKD.

Citroen C5 Air Cross was launched in India in April earlier this year in two variants Feel and Shine. I am reviewing the top variant Shine, so let’s talk about that in detail.

The design of the car is distinctive, it stands out and definitely makes its presence felt. It looks pretty elegant with a certain affirming attitude, the size of the car doesn’t go unnoticed, it is much bigger and longer.

The face of the car is pretty good looking, the logo stretches out onto the grill, the shine variant gets split LED Headlamps, the lower variant gets halogen lights. It’s got curved side panels, from the side the car doesn’t look boxy, it looks rounded and smaller from the rear.

The Chassis sits on 18-inch dual tone diamond cut rims wrapped around Michelin tyres. There is ample boot space of 580L extendable up to 720 L. Additional features are Hands free electric tailgate and rear windshield defogger. The rear seat has 3 separate adjustability and a delightful view of panoramic sunroof with intuitive technology.

Interiors are refined and subtle, tastefully done upholstery with soft leather on the dashboard, steering wheel and hard plastic at the bottom of the dashboard.

The SUV is equipped with basic tech 20.32cm touchscreen 31.24 cm digital cluster with 10 safety and driver aid systems like park assist, unique coffee break alert, blind spot monitoring system and Air quality system which seems must considering the rising pollution levels of the Country.

Double laminated front windows and acoustic windshield glass wind reduces the road noise to an absolute minimum.

The best attraction of the car is the Magic Carpet like drive experience which is powered by 2 Litre Diesel engine that delivers 177ps power @3750 rpm and 400NM of torque @2000rpm transmitted by 8speed automatic gearbox which is more fuel efficient (18.6l/km mileage as stated by the company) and provides incredibly smooth gear shifts.

To add to the driving pleasure the SUV gets suspension with Progressive Hydraulic Cushions which helps the car to take all the bumps in its stride.

Although it is not a hardcore off-roader neither is it a 4-wheel drive but is still equipped to take on Indian Roads and deliver a great drive experience.

The car comes in 4 colours white, grey blue and black + with dual tone sunroof options starting Price 32,80,000/- (ex-showroom).
