Patna: Amid the surge in daily coronavirus cases in the state, the Bihar government on Tuesday announced a statewide lockdown till May 15.
This decision by the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar came after Patna High Court on Monday asked the Bihar government to control the coronavirus situation and declared a lockdown or it will have to declare an appropriate order.
“After discussion with the associate ministers and officials yesterday, it was decided to implement the lockdown in Bihar by May 15, 2021. In relation to its detailed guidelines and other activities, today the Crisis management group has been instructed to take action,” tweeted Bihar CM.

India reported close to 360,000 new cases in the last 24 hours on Tuesday, a slight dip from the previous day. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 3,57,229 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Tuesday morning. The tally was lower than the previous day high of 3,68,147 new infections reported on Monday.
The new cases pushed the total tally to 2,02,82,833 cases in the country as on May 4.
As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as many as 3,449 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, up from 3,417 deaths reported on Monday. With more than 3400 deaths the total death tally in the country rose to 2,22,408 lives lost to date.
On the recovery front, 3,20,289 discharges were recorded in the last 24 hours, Ministry of health data showed on Tuesday. The total number of patients that have been discharged stood at 1,66,13,292 cases in the country on May 4.
The country also saw a dip in active COVID-19 cases from the previous day. From a total of 34,13,642 active cased logged on Monday, the country recorded 34,47,133 active cases on Tuesday.
