New Delhi: Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh, who dropped a nail-biting catch in the match against arch-rivals Pakistan, faced criticism. He was criticised after India’s defeat. The Wikipedia entry of the cricketer was changed after India’s five-wicket loss to Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday.
The incident has been caught by Pakistanis and reportedly they have started publicity against the bowler on Twitter, tagging him as ‘Khalistani.’
On the other hand, shockingly Indian cricketer Arshdeep’s Wikipedia page entry was changed to display Khalistan association. Immediately, The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has asked Wikipedia executives in India to look for an explanation on the sudden changes.
Arshdeep’s Wikipedia page entries was edited to that he has been selected to play for the ‘Khalistani national cricket team.’ The wiki page was later restored.
According to sources, “the Centre is of the opinion that the changes (that wrongly reflected Khalistan link) could cause disharmony in India. Changes in the page could lead to law and order situations for Arshdeep Singh’s family,” ministry sources said.
Meanwhile, apart from criticism, many Indians also supported Arshdeep. Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter and extended his support. “Stop criticising young @arshdeepsinghh. No one drop the catch purposely.. we are proud of our boys .. Pakistan played better.. shame on such people who r putting our own guys down by saying cheap things on this platform bout arsh and team.. Arsh is GOLD, he tweeted.
