With South Africa getting bundled out for 209, India took a slender 14-run lead, and now Virat Kohli would be hoping that his batters put forward a more grinding performance with the bat.

Resuming the third and final session on Day 2 at 176/7, Keegan Petersen and Kagiso Rabada added three more runs to the total before Petersen (72) was sent back to the pavilion by Bumrah.

Kagiso Rabada and Duanne Olivier added 21 more runs to the total, but this partnership was cut short by Shardul Thakur as he dismissed Rabada (15), reducing South Africa to 200/9. In the end, Proteas were bowled out for 209.

On the opening day of the Test, India was bowled out for 223 with skipper Virat Kohli top-scoring with a knock of 79. Kagiso Rabada scalped four wickets for the Proteas. Brief Scores: India 223; South Africa 209 all out (Keegan Petersen 72, Temba Bavumam 28; Jasprit Bumrah 5-42).

Earlier on Day 1, the hosts scored 17/1 at stumps in Newlands trailing India by 206 runs after the visitors were bowled out for 223. The Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and despite a bit of overcast conditions chose to bat first.

Opener Mayank Agarwal got a life on his individual score of zero as South African pacer Kagiso Rabada got the outside edge but Keegan Petersen dropped a tough chance at third slip. The duo from there on batted steadily start to put on 31 runs for the opening wicket.

Protea bowlers kept on persisting as Duanne Olivier bowled three maidens and along with pacer Kagiso Rabada bowled 24 balls in a row. The pressure finally got in as Rahul edged the ball to wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne for 12 off pacer Olivier.

In the next over, Mayank Agarwal was dismissed by Rabada caught in the second slip by Aiden Markram for 15. Agarwal’s wicket meant skipper Virat Kohli’s arrival and Rabada welcomed him with a bouncer of the very first ball.
