New Delhi: The Kolkata Knight Riders are playing fearless cricket. Something they did way back in 2018. But they couldn’t make it big that season. It was when Andre Russell was in form. It was then when the Chennai Super Kings, who became champions that year, were scared of facing the KKR team because of their battery of stroke-makers. Three years later, nothing much has changed. Only Russell isn’t playing regularly, and the team has come up from the ashes, literally.
Before the second leg of the IPL began, KKR were seventh in the points table — five losses and two wins. They were ahead of the Sunrisers Hyderabad. But the decision to make the head coach their boss was a game-changer. From there on, there was no looking back. The KKR came into the second leg with plenty of determination. Their top-order and the spin department worked in tandem to reach the last four of the league table.
Now that the Royal Challengers Bangalore are eliminated, they are ready to take on the Delhi Capitals in the second qualifier, the KKR are on a roll. So much so that it appears that Delhi would need special efforts from the Delhi Capitals to stop Eoin Morgan and his team from entering into Friday’s IPL final against the Super Kings.
Of course, CSK would be relieved to face Delhi again in the final. But they won’t mind KKR either. That is one team under MS Dhoni that isn’t afraid of losing. The Delhi are now Daredevils too. They weren’t as daring when the Delhi Capitals were called Delhi Daredevils. First-time captain Rishab Pant has a lot to prove as well in the big game. He is not going to take anything lying down. But the biggest deal would be to tackle the two in-form spinners of KKR — Sunil Narine and Varun Chakraborty. So all put together, it is going to be the most exciting next few days in Indian cricket!
