New Delhi: Shikhar Dhawan’s explosive knock earned him a lot of praises from former Indian cricketers as he took the game away from the KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) to help Delhi Capitals (DC) registered an easy victory in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday.

Shikhar’s match-winning batting display saw Virender Sehwag, Irfan Pathan, Sanjay Manjrekar, etc sing praises about him.

In chase of a target score of 196, Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw handed DC a decent start with the bat and fired the side to 57 in the first five overs. However, Arshdeep Singh finally found a breakthrough and dismissed Shaw, who departed after scoring 32 off 17 balls in the sixth over.

Steven Smith, who came into bat at number three failed to leave a mark. The Australian sluggish knock ended when he tried to go big but was caught in the deep.

However, Dhawan kept raining hell on PBKS bowlers. The left-handed opener smashed three back-to-back fours in the 14th over but got out in the next over after scoring 92 off just 49 balls, missing out on a century by narrow margins again.

Reacting to this propelling knock, Virender Sehwag took to Twitter and said: “Shikhar Dhawan is a classic example of how to maintain a good strike rate without taking undue risks. A great learning example for many players who get bogged down. This 92 Was a Champion knock @SDhawan25 , showing how it is done.”

Meanwhile, former Indian allrounder Irfan Pathan reacted by saying: “Brilliant once again from @SDhawan25 how good he has been in the history of ipl? Too good. Well done #dc on convincing victory.”

Cricketer-tuned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar also lauded Dhawan’s efforts and said: “That was classic hammering from Dhawan of the Punjab bowlers. Just mind boggling the strides he has made as an IPL batsman in the last 3 years. That too post the age of 32. Highlights his commitment to fitness and his strong mind. ”
