Kem Cho Ahmedabad, Captain Hardik Pandya Greets Fans Of New IPL Team

New Delhi: Indian batter Hardik Pandya on Saturday expressed gratitude towards the owners and team management of the new IPL franchise Ahmedabad for showing faith in him as a captain. The right hander posted a video on Twitter, in which he said, “Super excited to start this new journey in new IPL team Ahmedabad. Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank the owners, the management for putting their faith in me as a captain of this team.”

“Its a new era for us and I am excited what lies ahead. What I can promise you is this team will always fight and give their all. A big welcome to Rashid and Shubman Gill as well, two players whom I know extremely well and will bring a lot to our table,” he added.

The two new IPL teams have picked six players with Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul being named captain of the Ahmedabad and Lucknow franchise respectively.
Some of other other big names retained include Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Kane Williamson, Jos Buttler and Glenn Maxwell.

Gary Kirsten has been appointed as the batting coach, and mentor whereas Vikram Solanki has been appointed as Ahmedabad’s Director of Cricket. Ashish Nehra has been appointed as the head coach.

“Total of 1,214 players (896 Indian and 318 overseas players) have signed up to be part of the IPL 2022 Player Auction,” the IPL said in a statement on Saturday.
The two-day mega auction is slated to be held in Bengaluru on the February 12 and 13.

More than 200 players who have registered are capped international players, while 62 uncapped foreign players have also thrown their hat into the ring. An unnamed player from Bhutan has registered for the lucrative league while a record number of 14 cricketers from USA have signed up for the auction.

Australia tops the overseas list with 59 players while 48 cricketers from South African have also put forth their names. West Indies (41), Sri Lanka (36), England (30), New Zealand (29) and Afghanistan (20) are some of the other countries from where numerous players have registered their names.

There is also representation from Namibia (5), Nepal (15), Netherlands (1), Oman (3), Scotland (1), Zimbabwe (2), Ireland (3) and UAE (1).
