New Delhi: Former Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni is all set to make a sensation return to the Men In Blue for the upcoming 2021 T20 World Cup. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday officially announced a 15-member squad for the tournament. However, one of the biggest talking points from this become MS Dhoni’s inclusion in the Team India squad, however, as a mentor for the T20 World Cup.
Since India’s semi-final exit from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against New Zealand, MSD did not feature for the Men In Blue.
That was also the final time ‘Mahi’ downed upon the iconic Blue jersey for India when he got run-out, inches away from guiding his nation to another thrilling victory.
In another big surprise, Ravichandran Ashwin was named in the squad while opener Shikhar Dhawan failed to make the cut in the final team for the 2021 T20 World Cup.
Ashwin played his last T20I against West Indies in July 2017.
Virat Kohli will lead the side as he looks to win his first ICC trophy ever since taking captaincy from Dhoni.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar have been named as stand-by players for the team.
The T20 World Cup will take place from October 17 to November 14.
India squad: Virat Kohli (c), Rohit Sharma (vc), KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Chahar, Varun, Mohammed Shami, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishan Kishan.
Stand-byes: Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur.
