New Delhi: Former Team India cricketer Suresh Raina expressed his thoughts on BCCI’s decision to appoint MS Dhoni as a mentor for the Virat Kohli-led side for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. Taking to social media, Raina stated that this move was “fabulous” and sent best wishes to the Men In Blue contingent for the tournament.
“All the very best to #TeamIndia on the upcoming T20 World Cup, the selected squad looks very balanced. Good to have @ashwinravi99 back in the team, and a fabulous decision by @bcci to have the man himself @msdhoni bhai as the mentor,” tweeted Raina.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday stated that he spoke with former skipper Dhoni on being the mentor for the upcoming T20 World Cup, and said that the current team management is on the same page about the decision.
BCCI on Wednesday officially announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021.
In what can only be said is a big surprise, Ravichandran Ashwin was named in the squad while opener Shikhar Dhawan failed to make the cut in the final team for the tournament.
Ashwin played his last T20I against West Indies in July 2017.
Virat Kohli will lead the side as he looks to win his first ICC trophy ever since taking captaincy from Dhoni.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, and Deepak Chahar have been named as stand-by players for the team.
The T20 World Cup will take place from October 17 to November 14.
