New Delhi: Former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis was involved in a nasty collision during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 match in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Du Plessis, who was a key figure for Quetta Gladiators against Peshawar Zalmi during the 19th match of PSL 2021, suffered a nasty collision with Pakistan’s Mohammad Hasnain while attempting to save a boundary in the 7th over of Zalmi’s innings.

Replays shows du Plessis’ head clatters into Hasnain’s knee. Following the nasty coming together, the veteran South African cricketer laid motionless on the floor as medical staff rushed in.

He regained consciousness a bit later and was rushed to a hospital nearby. Afterwards, it was widely reported that du Plessis returned back to the team hotel after a through check-up for a concussion.

The 36-year-old was replaced by Saim Ayub as a concussion substitute.

Reacting to this, du Plessis’ wife Imari Visser shared an emotional post and prayed for his well-being. Imari shared a photo of Faf, who seemed to be in a lot of pain, as he held his forehead while a bruise mark on his right ear.

“This is killing me right now. Surely he should be checked in hospital?!??” Imari Visser wrote on her Instagram story.


With it comes to the match, Peshawar Zalmi went on to post a hefty total of 197/5 from their allotted 20 overs after being asked to bat first riding, after David Miller 73 (46), and, veteran Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal 59 (37) showcased some stellar batting display.

On the chase, du Plessis was a huge miss for the Quetta Gladiators as they could only post 136/9 from their 20 overs. Gladiators skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed (36*) was the only one who managed to stay out while concussion substitute Saim Ayub (35), and, Usman Khan (28) failed to make any serious impact as Quetta suffered a defeat by a margin of 61 runs.
