New Delhi: Saba Karim, Ex-Cricketer and Ex-BCCI manager in an exclusive with India Ahead spoke about the report that Ganguly wanted to issue show cause notice to Virat Kohli ahead of SA tour.

Saba was asked about Sourav Ganguly as a cricketer and whether his exceptional strategies on the pitch reprimand Virat Kohli, the former cricketer said that he doesn’t think that the BCCI president is a person who will ever reprimand Kohli.”

Saba also mentioned that there were primarily two reasons that might have prompted Kohli to quit captaincy. The first is a complete breakdown of communication between him and the selection committee.

Saba added that he got the impression that the former skipper was not getting the desired respect from the selection committee or the BCCI. He further stressed that whatever happened could have been easily avoided with better communication.

Calling sacking Virat Kohli from ODI captaincy a ‘shabby’ move, he said “Virat was called an hour before team selections and afterwards he was informed about his removal from the ODI captaincy”. “Someone who has always given his best on the ground as a batter but also as a captain does not deserve to be informed at the last minute, Saba added.

On being asked who amongst Virat Kohli or Sourav Ganguly crossed the line, Saba replied, ” Even if Kohli did cross the line, there was always a way to handle the situation and a legend like Ganguly could have done it in a better way.”

Saba said that he believes that once being a captain himself, Ganguly should have understood Kohli’s urge to know more about the decisions taking place in a formal way.

Two of the biggest names in Indian cricket – Sourav Ganguly and Virat Kohli  – have not been on the best of terms is clear from the developments in the last couple of months. India Ahead has learnt that Ganguly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, even wanted to issue a show-cause notice to the then Test captain Kohli before the series against South Africa began in December 2021.

The notice was to be issued for Kohli’s emotional outburst against the establishment after he was removed as captain of the One Day International (ODI) team during a press conference before the team’s departure for South Africa in December 2021.
