THOUGH Delhi Capitals are on a roll and the Royals Challengers Bangalore are looking good, the team to beat in this IPL is unavoidably the Chennai Super Kings. Reason? A team that has batting till No.10 can’t be taken out of the equation. So what if Delhi or Rajasthan Royals have beaten them in recent matches of the league stages. Chennai is still the strongest of the lot. A team that can boast of batting right from in-form Rituraj Gaekwad, Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar can’t go wrong that easily. If T20 cricket is all heavily loaded towards the batsman, the best batting team surely will have the best chance to win the title, right?
Almost with the same team, CSK finished sixth last year in the league stage and a few months later, they are back in the thick of things again. Their biggest barrier is the Mumbai Indians – who are struggling to qualify for the play-off stages this season. So it can only be an individual brilliance of RCB’s AB De Villiers that can stop the CSK team from becoming the tournament favorites. Whether Dhoni would sign out of IPL after this win or not is not the issue here right now. For this team – the biggest challenge is to win the tournament.
Also, CSK are a complete team. In terms of bowling and all-round skills, there isn’t a team better than CSK. They have three IPL titles (2010, 2011, and 2018) as opposed to Mumbai’s five. They have reached the IPL finals seven times and even the head-to-record against most of the IPL team is impeccable. Overall, there are teams who have gone through the motions, but it is only CSK who have survived all weathers. Will 2021 IPL be theirs? Let’s see that!
