Kolkata: The Bengal battle may have been won but West Bengal is once again preparing for a heated battle between Didi and BJP’s candidate Priyanka Tebriwal in the Bhabanipur by polls.
This battle is the battle of prestige and survival for Mamata Banerjee. After losing Nandigram to Suvendhu Adhikari it is a must for Didi to win this by polls in order to retain her post as the chief minister.
Both the BJP and the TMC have already begun their wall paintings and door to door campaigns. TMC leader and state minister Firhad Hakim has already begun the door to door campaign for Mamata Banerjee, BJP state President Dilip Ghosh on Sunday started the campaign by doing a wall painting for Tebriwal at Kedar Bose Road in Bhabanipur.
Ghosh told reporters, “we will be putting up a tough fight .If they are so confident about winning then why have the TMC fielded all their senior leaders on all the lanes and bylanes of Bhabanipur. If they are so confident then let them sit at home, but we will go door to door and ask for people’s votes . Rest the people will decide.”
Meanwhile Firhad Hakim during his door to door campaign told reporters, “who knows Priyanka Tebriwal. She has lost to the TMC candidate in this Assembly Elections, but she must not lose hope. Mamata Banerjee is the daughter of this area and everyone wants her.”
Meanwhile, the BJP is confident that this time Banerjee will lose like she had in Nandigram. Though Priyanka Tebriwal has lost in the 2021 Assembly Elections from Entally still BJP sources say a lot of thought had been put by the Central leaders in taking the decision to field the youth leader Priyanka Tibrewal in the upcoming by-poll. Tibrewal is the vice-president of the BJP’s youth wing in the state and an advocate, who has played a pivotal role in the BJP’s legal battle in the Calcutta high court on post poll violence, which ultimately led a five-judge bench to order for a CBI probe.
After being selected as the candidate from Bhabanipur Tibrewal said, “Mamata Banerjee is a two-time MLA from Bhawanipore but I was born there. It is my ancestral house, so I was born and brought up in Bhawanipore. I believe Mamata Banerjee doesn’t want the votes of outsiders or Hindi-speaking people. Certainly, she will get a befitting reply.”
Bhabanipur has been Mamata Banerjee’s stronghold always but in the 2021 Assembly Elections she had given up this seat to take on Suvendhu Adhikari at Nandigram.
Bhabanipur is considered to be Mamata banerjee s bastion as she has been elected MLA from here for over a decade , it was from Bhabanipur that Banerjee started her political career as a student leader from Jogamaya Devi College. In 2011 Banerjee won the Bhawanipur by poll in 2016 she won the seat by securing more than 62,000 votes.
After losing to Suvendhu Adhikari in the Assembly Elections as per Election Commission guidelines, Banerjee’s loss in Nandigram means that she needs to win from any Assembly seat by November 5 if she is to remain Chief Minister of the State.
