New Delhi: The West Bengal BJP has named its Lok Sabha MP Arjun Singh as the observer for the crucial Bhabanipur bypoll, which will see Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee contest against BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal. The saffron party has also assigned 8 MLAs to each wards in Bhabanipur.
Former Bhabanipur candidate and actor Rudranil Ghosh will be BJP’s campaign committee chief.
Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh had, on September 8, alleged that bombs were hurled at residence in Jagaddal in North 24-Parganas by TMC workers.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is set to file her nomination for the bypolls to the Bhabanipur seat today.
According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the by-election in Bhabanipur Assembly Constituency in West Bengal will be held on September 30.
The Election Commission also informed that bypolls will also be held in Samserganj and Jangipur of West Bengal and Pipli constituency of Odisha on the same date. The counting of votes will be taken up on October 3.
The Bhabanipur assembly seat was vacated by the West Bengal Agriculture Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay in May, making way for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to contest from Bhabanipur seat.
