New Delhi: BJP has fielded lawyer Priyanka Tibrewal against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the crucial Bhabanipur bypoll. Further, the West Bengal BJP has named its Lok Sabha MP Arjun Singh as the observer and also assigned 8 MLAs to each wards in Bhabanipur. Former Bhabanipur candidate and actor Rudranil Ghosh will be BJP’s campaign committee chief.
Tibrewal, an advocate by profession, had joined the BJP in August 2014 on the suggestion of singer-turned-BJP leader Babul Supriyo. She was a legal advisor to Supriyo then. Tibrewal is currently the lawyer for victims of post-poll violence in the state.
The party also announced the names of Milan Ghosh and Sujit Das for Samserganj and Jangipur seats respectively.
She had contested the West Bengal Assembly election this year from Entally but lost to TMC’s Swarna Kamal Saha.
Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee is set to file her nomination for the bypolls to the Bhabanipur seat today.
According to the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the by-election in Bhabanipur Assembly Constituency in West Bengal will be held on September 30.
The Election Commission also informed that bypolls will also be held in Samserganj and Jangipur of West Bengal and Pipli constituency of Odisha on the same date. The counting of votes will be taken up on October 3.
The Bhabanipur assembly seat was vacated by the West Bengal Agriculture Minister Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay in May, making way for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to contest from Bhabanipur seat.
