5 Reasons To Binge-Watch Decoupled On Netflix!

The eight-part series is a comical take on a modern age marriage between a famous writer and his startup founder wife. Here are my top 5 reasons to binge-watch this series right away:

A SHOW that has been trending in the top 5 on Netflix India ever since it’s release is R Madhavan and Surveen Chawla starrer Decoupled, which premiered on the OTT platform on December 17, 2021. I might be a little late to the party, but with the lockdowns and curfews happening across the country, there’s always time to binge-watch a series that you haven’t already seen. I, for one, watched Decoupled, created by the renowned journalist Manu Joseph.

The eight-part series is a comical take on a modern age marriage between a famous writer and his startup founder wife. Here are my top 5 reasons to binge-watch this series right away:

Modern Take On Marriages

The show is a satire based on the upper-middle class and its hypocrisy. Madhavan’s Arya and Surveen Chawla’s Shruti live in a plush bungalow in Gurgaon and are staying together in an unhappy marriage just for the sake of their 12-year-old daughter. The show doesn’t try to be politically correct and delivers a refreshingly new plot with wit, and humor.

The Effortless Madhavan

Arya, portrayed by Madhavan, is someone you wouldn’t like to spend an evening with. The know it all writer isn’t all negative, but is someone who speaks his mind all the time. Arya speaks in punchlines, provokes people around him every now and then and does things that will get him attention. Madhavan brilliantly plays the insufferable writer and owns the character of Arya completely. Shoutout to how charming Madhavan looks in every frame he is in.

The Stunning Surveen Chawla

Surveen Chawla looks stunning in her stunning sartorial choices. Her expressions, nuances and body language seal the deal as to how underrated the actress is. Her performance compliments Madhavan’s Arya perfectly with the constant back and forth between the characters. You’ll be surprised with how good their chemistry looks on screen.

A Stellar Secondary Cast

A must for any good series is a good story coupled with a good casting. And Decoupled nails it with its supporting cast. Be it Atul Kumar’s spot-on advice as the new Guru in town, Dilnaz Irani, the Netflix associate, the couple’s car driver Ganesh, and even Chetan Bhagat, every cast member nail their parts. Chetan’s constant bickering and unending banter with Madhavan are one of the highlights of the series.

An Unordinary Ending

While all of us vouch for a happy ending, this one breaks away from the quintessential outcome and gives you a modern twist to the tale. And for the ones missing out on celebrations, you’ll be in for a party in the end to give a toast to the couple’s new relationship status.

Decoupled is streaming now on Netflix.
