Kochi: Malayalam actor Dileep has filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Kerala High Court in a case registered by the Crime Branch of Kerala Police for allegedly threatening the investigation officials of the actress assault case. Dileep is one of the eight people accused in the abduction and molestation case of an actress. The case pertains to the alleged abduction of the actress on the night of February 17, 2017 by a group of men who had forced their way into the vehicle and molested her.
On Sunday, Dileep was booked under IPC sections 116 (abetment of offence punishable with imprisonment), 118 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with death or imprisonment for life), 120B (party to criminal conspiracy), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (criminal act done by several people) by the Crime Branch. Dileep is named as the first accused in the FIR.
The case was registered after the audio clips came to the fore. According to these audio clips, Dileep and others allegedly threatened the officials who were investigating the actress’ assault case. At the same time, Balachandra Kumar, the director also told the police that Dileep did the same.

Feb 18, 2017: Popular Malayalam film actress is abducted and sexually abused in a moving vehicle. The actor files a complaint with the police the same day.
Feb 19, 2017: Three people are accused in the case. Two men identified as Pradeep and Salim are taken into custody. The operation was planned by actress’s former driver Sunil Kumar, say police.
Feb 24, 2017: Sunil is arrested by police from inside a court amidst great drama. He had come to the court to surrender. Police later arrest sixth accused in the case. Sunil admits his intention to blackmail the actress after recording obscene content.
April 18, 2017: 60 days after the incident, police file charge sheet against seven people.
June 24, 2017: A letter, purportedly written by Sunil from Kakkanad jail to actor Dileep, surfaces.
June 25, 2017: Dileep tells the press that he is being blackmailed to pay a ransom of Rs 1.5 crore.
July 10, 2017: Actor Dileep is arrested after SIT collects evidence to prove his involvement. Telephone call records and eyewitness deposition confirm his role.
Oct 3, 2017: Kerala High Court grants bail to Dileep.
Sep, 2021: SC grants extension for third time to complete trial till Feb 16, 2022.
Jan 5, 2022: Kerala government asks SC for extension of trial in assault case by 6 months
