New Delhi: Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif headlined Rohit Shetty’s cop-drama Sooryavanshi, that released on the occasion of Diwali 2021 and became a superhit. The movie crossed the 100 crore mark within 5 days of its release and proved to be a relief for theatre owners. And now, the movie is set to re-release theatrically in Gujarat on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti. Sooryavanshi will re-release across 30 non-national multiplex screens.
The film is the fourth installment in his cop universe. The first two – the Singham series – featuring Ajay Devgn while the third film titled Simmba were front runners in terms of box office collections and viewership.
Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle and confirmed the news. He wrote: “‘SOORYAVANSHI’ TO RE-RELEASE IN GUJARAT TOMORROW… On the auspicious occasion of #Sankranthi festival, #Sooryavanshi will re-release across 30 non-national multiplexes in #Gujarat tomorrow… This move will boost footfalls at a time when there’s dearth of new content in cinemas.”
After waiting for the last 19 months, director Rohit Shetty made into the news yet again with Sooryavanshi becoming his ninth movie to get past the Rs 100 crore mark in less than 5 days.
The Akshay Kumar-fronted film opened to thunderous response in theatres on November 5, following multiple delays due to the coronavirus pandemic. The director urged the audience to shower their love on all the films that will be released in theatres in the coming days.
Also starring Katrina Kaif, the movie is presented by Reliance Entertainment and produced by Rohit Shetty Picturez in association with Dharma Productions and Cape of Good Films.
