Mumbai: Veteran actor Dilip Kumar, who was admitted to a hospital here after experiencing episodes of breathlessness, is currently on oxygen support and stable, his family shared in an update on the actor’s official Twitter handle on Monday (June 7).

“Dilip Saab is on oxygen support – not on ventilator. He is stable. Waiting for few test results to perform pleural aspiration : Dr Jalil Parkar, chest specialist treating Saab,” the latest update on Kumar’s Twitter handle read.

Another post from the actor’s account requested media to only report verified health update, which will be shared on his Twitter handle, and not rely on anyone else “who may not have direct knowledge.”

Dilip Kumar, who was hospitalised in Mumbai on Sunday (June 6) has been diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion.

According to Dr Jalil Parkar, the pulmonologist treating the actor at Mumbai’s PD Hinduja Hospital, ”Actor Dilip Kumar has been diagnosed with bilateral pleural effusion and kept on oxygen support in ICU ward. His condition is stable”.

“Saab is stable. Thank you for your heart-felt duas and prayers. As per doctors, he should be home in 2-3 days. Insh’Allah,” the update on Kumar’s official Twitter handle read.

The post also included an appeal to fans and followers to stay away from speculation. “Don’t believe in WhatsApp forwards,” it stated.

According to Parker, bilateral pleural effusion refers to the collection of fluid in the thin cavity which acts as a buffer between the lung and inner chest wall. Earlier the veteran actor was admitted to Mumbai’s Khar Hinduja hospital after reportedly suffering from breathing problems for the past few days.

According to Saira Banu, wife of Dilip Kumar, the actor was suffering from breathlessness over the past couple of days and as a result he was taken to the hospital. Veteran actor Dilip Kumar has been admitted to PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai. He was having breathing issues since past few days,” Saira Banu was quoted as saying by ANI. 

Kumar appeared in some iconic films throughout his career spanning over five decades, including Kohinoor, Mughal-e-Azam, Devdas, Naya Daur, Ram Aur Shyam, among others. The last time Kumar had featured on the big screen was in Qila, back in 1998.
