James Michael Tyler, Who Played Gunther In Friends, Passes Away At 59

James Michael Tyler, known for playing the Central Perk barista in Friends, died of prostate cancer.

New Delhi: James Michael Tyler, popularly known for playing the much-loved character ‘Gunther’ from the famous television series Friends has passed away. The actor, 59, died at his home in LA on Sunday, as reported in TMZ. Tyler had been fighting a long and hard battle with prostate cancer since 2018. 

The offcial twitter handle for Friends also tweeted about the same. The tweet read: “Warner Bros. Television mourns the loss of James Michael Tyler, a beloved actor and integral part of our FRIENDS family. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, colleagues and fans.”

Tyler had appeared briefly in a few series before being cast as a background character of Friends in 1994. Over the show’s multi-year-run, he became the most frequently recurring guest star on the series playing Gunther, the Central Perk barista with an unrequited affection for Rachel (Jennifer Aniston).
