Bengaluru: People clash with BBMP officials after vaccine shortage during inoculation of cab and auto drivers

According to an announcement by the Karnataka government, cab drivers and auto drivers were included in the category of Corona warrior after which the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) organised a special drive for the them.

New Delhi: Scenes of chaos were witnessed on Saturday (May 29) outside several vaccination centres in Bengaluru after a shortage in the number of doses. According to an announcement by the Karnataka government, cab drivers and auto drivers were included in the category of Corona warrior after which the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) organised a special drive for the them.

However, large number of common men were also seen in the queues.

The BBMP said that it had issued tokens to only 65 peoples but the queues that formed outside were not finished even after four hours.

Commotion soon followed as the BBMP officials tried to control it.

The situation grew worse and police had to be called in to control the crowds.

After four hours, the BBMP officials announced that the vaccination drive was only for the auto drivers and cab drivers.

Post this, people started fighting with the BBMP officials.

Karnataka on Friday 22,823 new COVID-19 cases, taking the state’s total tally to 25,46,821.

401 deaths were reported in the same period, taking the toll to 27,806 since March 10 last year.
