Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tests positive for COVID 19

This comes just days after he had announced that he would not be conducting any political rally in West Bengal for the elections as the nation is in the grip of the second wave of COVID.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday (April 20) informed that he had tested positive for COVID 19 on Twitter. Gandhi tweeted, “After experiencing mild symptoms, I’ve just tested positive for COVID. All those who’ve been in contact with me recently, please follow all safety protocols and stay safe.”

This comes just days after he had announced that he would not be conducting any political rally in West Bengal for the elections as the nation is in the grip of the second wave of COVID. The leader had recently addressed several political rallies in West Bengal and Kerala before he took decision to halt his campaigning.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday also announced that he was going into self-isolation after his wife tested positive for COVID.

After five days of continuous rise, India on Tuesday reported a slight dip from the previous day high of over 270,000 cases. On Tuesday, as many as 2,59,170 new COVID-19 cases were reported, slowing down from 2,73,810 new coronavirus cases reported earlier. The tally which showed a slower pace, was still above the Sunday tally of 2,34,692 cases.

Several countries have also added India to the ‘red list’ after the rise in COVID cases. Hong Kong and United Kingdom announced severe travel restrictions from India on Monday.
