India is seeing a surge in cases after new infections had dipped below 30,000 daily cases after 132 days on July 27.
However, the number of outpatients dropped from 41,726 recoveries to 41,096 recoveries in the last 24 hours taking the total tally to 3,10,15,844 outpatients.
With these additions, the total number of cases reported since the start of the pandemic has risen to 3,18,12,114 while the death toll stands at 4,26,754.
Active cases in the country have increased from 3,18,12,114 on Thursday to 4,14,159 cases on Friday. India has so far has administered 49,53,27,595 doses so far since January 16, 2021.
47,48,93,363 samples have been tested so far since the start of the pandemic last year, said the India Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
Out of this, 16,64,030 were tested in the past 24 hours alone.
The new infections had stayed above 200,000-mark since April 15. The new cases have been increasing at an alarming pace since the country broke the one lakh case barrier on April 4 when it reported 1,03,558 new Covid-19 cases.
Within a fortnight, the numbers doubled, which sounded alarm bells throughout the country as medical infrastructure, doctors and patients grappled with resource crunch. India had crossed the grim milestone of two crores on May 4.
