Coronavirus Vaccination Update: Over 17.7Cr doses administered till May 12

India began its vaccination programme on January 16 and has begun its third phase of vaccine rollouts on May 1, for everyone who is above 18 years of age.

New Delhi: India has so far administered more than 17.70 crore doses of the coronavirus vaccine, the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare showed on Thursday (May 13).

A total of 17,72,14,256 doses were given till 7 am on May 13, as per the data. The liberalised and accelerated phase-3 strategy of COVID-19 vaccination has come into force from Saturday (May 1, 2021). Registration for the newly eligible population groups had commenced on April 28, 2021. The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country had crossed 170 million on May 10.

Meanwhile after recording more than 4-lakh COVID cases for four consecutive day till Sunday, India reported more than 3,62,000 new infections in the last 24 hours. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare the country recorded 3,62,727 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday morning. A significant increase of nearly 12,000 cases was seen from a previous day high of 3,48,421 infections on May 12. 

These new COVID-19 cases has pushed the country’s total tally to 2,37,03,665 in the country as on May 13. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, more than 4,100 deaths were reported in India. As per the ministry, as many as 4,120 mortalities were reported, an increase from previous day in the last 24 hours. On Wednesday, 4,205 deaths due to the novel coronavirus was reported. With more than 4,100 deaths the total death tally in the country rose to 2,58,317 lives lost to date.

On the recovery side, 3,52,181 discharges were recorded in the last 24 hours, Ministry of health data showed on Thursday morning. The data points that there was a slight decrease in discharges from the previous day. The total number of patients that have been discharged stood at 1,97,34,823 cases in the country on May 13.

The country also saw a slight increase in active cases from the previous day. From a total of 37,04,099 active cased logged on Wednesday, the country recorded 37,10,525 active cases on the early hours of Thursday.
