Responding to the suspension, TMC MP Derek O’Brien hit out at the Centre saying, “Modi and Shah have suspended democracy, what are you talking about MPs?”

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to Twitter to slam the Centre saying, “With the suspension of Opposition MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, it is abundantly clear that Modi Sarkar is no mood to allow the Opposition to raise REAL, URGENT issues being faced by the people of our country in Parliament.”

Commenting on the suspension, BJP’s Piyush Goyal, leader of the house in Rajya Sabha, said, “We’re ready for discussion but despite that, they (Opposition) are repeatedly disrupting House proceedings. We’re hopeful that as soon as Finance Minister comes the discussion on price rise will take place. Some MPs have been suspended for this week for disrupting the House.”

Earlier, on Monday, four Congress MPs were suspended from Lok Sabha for holding placards inside the house despite warnings by Speaker Om Birla to behave. The monsoon session will end on August 12.
