Srinagar: Two persons were killed and 38 others were injured after a bus fell into a deep gorge in Keya Morh area of Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, said Udhampur Chief Medical Officer Dr Vijay Basnotra.
Ten injured have been referred to district hospital Udhampur, added the Udhampur CMO.
“Upon receiving the information, we immediately sent the ambulances to the spot. 10 injured have been referred to district hospital Udhampur,” Dr Vijay Basnotra, CMO Udhampur told ANI.
At least 13 passengers, including students, died and two others were injured on Monday after a bus fell into a gorge in Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district. Initially the death toll has been reported to be at 16.
The bus, which was on its way to Kullu from Shainsher, fell into the gorge at a hairpin bend near Jangla village around 8.30 am. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said a magisterial inquiry has been ordered and the Kullu ADM will probe the whole incident.
The deceased also reportedly included students. Twelve of the 13 dead have been identified as Tanu, Prem Chand, Fateh Chand, Anita Devi, Susheel Kumar, Khim Dasi, Roshi Devi, Parvati Devi, Jhablu Devi, Amit Kumar Rajak, Aaksh and Rakhi Maya, news agency PTI reported.
Those injured in the accident were admitted to the Kullu regional hospital for treatment.
President Ram Nath Kovind condoled the loss of lives and said he was distressed to learn about the death of students and other people in the accident.
Expressing condolences over the loss of lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of those who died. The injured will be given Rs 50,000 each, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a tweet.
