New Delhi: Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy on Saturday (June 26) was elected as the new Congress President of the Telangana Congress. while former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin was appointed as one of the five Working Presidents. The appointment of a new President came after TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy put in his papers after the Congress’ dismal performance in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections held in December 2020.
Other contenders for the post were Venkata Reddy, MP from Bhongir, and three-time Rajya Sabha member Hanumanth Rao.
The Congress Party in a press release said,”Hon’ble Congress President (Sonia Gandhi) has appointed President, Working President, Senior Vice Presidents, and Chairman/Convenors Of Campaign Committee, Election Management Committee, and AICC Programmes Implementation of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee as enclosed with immediate effect.”
Reddy took to Twitter to thank Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi for having faith in him.

Apart from Azharuddin, the other Working Presidents are J Geeta Reddy, M Anjan Kumar Yadav, T Jagga Reddy, and B Mahesh Kumar Goud.
Chandrasekhar Sambani, Damodhar Reddy, Ravi Mallu, Podem Veeraiah, Suresh Shetakar, Vem Narender Reddy, Ramesh Mudiraj, Gopishetty Niranjan T Kumar Rao and Javeed Ameer have been ap[pointed as the senior vice presidents.
The party also thanked the outgoing President Reddy and outgoing Working Presidents Ponnath Prabhakar and Jetti Kusum Kumar.
Congress has seen a great downfall after the death of its charismatic leader and former CM YSR Reddy in a helicopter crash in 2009.
In the recently held Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporations, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the second-largest party while the Congress was a distant fourth with 2 seats behind Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), BJP, and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
