Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee is set to start campaigning for the upcoming four Assembly by-polls in the state from October 23. He will begin his campaign from Khardah (North 24 Parganas) for TMC candidate Sovandeb Chatterjee.
After which he will also be campaigning in Gosaba (South 24 Parganas) on October 23, Dinhata (Cooch Behar) on October 25 and Santipur (Nadia) on October 26. The bypolls are to be held on October 30 th and the results will be announced on November 2, according to sources.
Dinhata and Santipur are going for by-polls as MPs Nisith Pramanik and Jaganath Sarkar who won from these seats inorder to retain their parliamentary seats did not take oath. The Khardah and Gosaba by-elections became necessary after the death of the TMCs victorious candidates.
Meanwhile the Election Commission has decided to increased the deployment of Central Force for by-election of the four Assembly constituencies (ACs) in Bengal by another 12 companies. Thus a total of 92 companies will be deployed in four Assembly Constituencies —Dinhata, Khardah, Santipur and Gosaba — where by-polls are scheduled to be held on October 30.
According to sources the largest deployment of Central Forces will be at Dinhata in Cooch Behar which shares the Indo-Bangladesh border. According to sources around 27 companies of central force will be deployed at Dinhata while 22 companies at Santipur, 20 companies at Khardah and 23 companies central force at Gosaba. Already a section of the Central Forces has already reached the Assembly constituencies and are conducting route marches for confidence building.
