New Delhi: Actor Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika Sood joined Congress in Punjab’s Moga on Monday. Senior Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu had reached Sonu Sood’s residence. A picture of the meeting between Sidhu and Sood has surfaced. Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Navjot Sidhu and Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi made the announcement at an official event.

“It is very rare that a party chief and the chief minister both have gone to someone’s home to grant the honour, and she deserves it,” Sidhu said.

The ceremony was held at the Sood residence in Punjab’s Moga district. Asked if Malvika Sood will fight the election from the Moga assembly constituency, Channi indicated that she would be the party’s choice.

“It is a matter of great happiness for us that a young woman who has earned a name for herself by running an NGO and dedicated herself to the people’s service is joining our party,” Sidhu said while welcoming her into the Congress.

Referring to Malvika Sood’s joining the Congress, Sidhu said, “In the cricketing world, it is called a game-changer.” “She is a young and educated woman, and her education as a software engineer will help her in her life ahead,” Sidhu said.

Speaking on the occasion, Malvika Sood said she has taken the political plunge to serve the people.

A photo tweeted by the Punjab Youth Congress showed Sonu and Malvika Sood meeting Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu.

In another news from last week, the Election Commission of India had revoked the appointment of actor Sonu Sood as Punjab’s “state icon”, state Chief Electoral Officer S Karuna Raju said on Friday, with the Bollywood star saying that he voluntarily stepped down as a family member was contesting the upcoming assembly polls.

Sonu Sood recently stepped down as Punja’s state icon citing his sister’s foray into politics. He’d announced last year that his sister would contest elections from their hometown Moga.
