New Delhi: Chattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has dismissed any talks of “rotational CM” formula after meeting Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi. Baghel said, “PL Punia has already clarified this so I don’t need to say anything further”.
The CM added that Rahul Gandhi would visit the state next week where he will inspect various projects in Bastar district.
Baghel said that he discussed the political and administrative issues of Chhattisgarh in the meeting.
Earlier in the day, MLAs from Raipur were flown into Delhi as Baghel met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the national capital in what was seen as a show of strength by the incumbent CM in a protracted battle with dissidents that are led by Health Minister TS Singh Deo.
Sources told India Ahead that boarding arrangements were made for the MLAs in a 5-Star hotel in the national capital if the need arises.
Those camping in Delhi included some MLAs who are the part of state government’s cabinet.
Baghel and Deo had previously met Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday.
The Congress which returned to power in the state after 15 years in 2018 is witnessing a tussle between Baghel and Health Minister TS Singh Deo who has staked his claim to the post of chief minister citing a post-poll agreement on rotating chief ministership.
The development comes a day after the TS Singh Deo had said that there was healthy competition between him and Baghel after the Congress high command said that Baghel would continue as the CM.
“There is rivalry even among siblings. and healthy competition takes place within the party,” he had said.
Back in 2018, when the Congress came back into power in Chattyisgrah there were three frontrunners for the state, Bhupesh Baghel who was leading the Congress in the state, TS Singh Deo who was the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly during the BJP government, and Tamradhwaj Sahu, the only Congress leaders to win from the state in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections.
The party high command had chosen Baghel as it believed that it was due to his aggressive campaign that Congress was able to put BJP out of power in the state after 15 years.
