The Allahabad High Court (HC) on Monday (April 19) ordered the Uttar Pradesh government to close private and government shops in five cities across the state till April 26. The five cities are Gorakhpur, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Varanasi. In the order the HC said,”All establishments be it government or private, except financial institutions and financial departments, medical and health services, industrial and scientific establishments, essential services including municipal functions, and public transport, shall remain closed till 26th April, 2021.”
The HC said that it has to enforce the lockdown in the view of the ‘larger public interest’ it has pass orders to break the chain of the pandemic COVID-19. All shopping maals and complexes will remain closed till April 26. All grocery shops excluding medical; shops will with more than three workers will remain closed.
All restaurants, hotels, and bars will remain closed till April 26. Furthermore, any social gatherings like marriage functions are also suspended till April 26. All religious establishments and religious places shall also be closed for the time period. The HC also said that the number of containment zones should be published daily in two leading Hindi and English newspapers having wide circulation in the five cities.
During the curfew, no non-essential movement fo people will be allowed. Only medical emergencies and medical help will be allowed to move throughout the city during this lockdown.
