Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday (March 12, 2021) wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi exhorting him to confer the highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna to Pingali Venkaiah, who designed India’s National Flag.
Chief Minister marked the 75th Independence Day celebrations by felicitating the family members of Pingali Venkaiah at their residence in Macharla, Guntur district as part of “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” that began in the state on Friday. He felicitated Ghantasala Sita Maha Lakshmi, daughter of Pingali Venkaiah and hander her the order sanctioning financial assistance of Rs 75 lakh.
Reddy interacted with the family members of Venkaiah and was presented the autobiography of Venkaiah by Sita Maha Lakshmi. She also shared the memories of the freedom struggle with the CM. Earlier in the presence of Ministers and MPs, Reddy paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Pingali Venkaiah.
Earlier, on the occasion to celebrate 91 years of Dandi March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a cultural event near Abhay Ghat in Ahmedabad. PM Narendra Modi flagged off the ‘Padyatra’ (Freedom March) from Sabarmati Ashram, Ahmedabad on Friday, as part of the Amrit Mahotsav programme to mark the 75 years of India’s independence.
