New Delhi: In a big political move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday inducted Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law Aparna Yadav in the party. She joined the party in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and BJP UP chief Swatantra Dev Singh.
Speaking exclusively to India Ahead, Aparna said the biggest decision in her joining the BJP is nationalism. “There is nothing beyond nationalism for me. Every Indian should think of nationalism. It is the best way to serve the people by coming to the BJP,” she said.
On being asked whether her joining BJP was a sign of split in the Yadav family, she said, “I will not refute anything but I will say that I am the daughter-in-law and will always continue to be. Nothing will change this .”
On whether she will contest the polls from Lucknow Cantonment constituency or not, Aparna added that she will accept whatever the party high command decides for her.
On being asked whether she shares BJP’s ideology, she said, “Everybody has the fundamental right to join the ideology they have. Being a youth and a woman, BJP is the best party to join.”
In 2017, Aparna Yadav had contested from the Lucknow Cantt seat as a Samajwadi Party candidate but had lost to BJP’s Rita Bahuguna Joshi.
For now there seem to several contenders for the crucial seat. BJP MP Rita Bahuguna Joshi has already expressed that she is willing to step down as a Parliamentarian to secure that seat for her son.
Uttar Pradesh goes to polls in 7 phases beginning February 10. The results will be declared on March 10.
