New Delhi: Among the winning candidates in the 15th legislative assembly, 52 per cent have criminal cases registered against them while 30 per cent have declared serious criminal cases in their affidavits, this was revealed by an analysis done by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) on Wednesday.
The analysis was based on the affidavits submitted to the Election Commission of India. About 66 percent of winning candidates are crorepatis and their average asset value is Rs 5.93 Crores. The election watch body analysed 808 out of 822 winning candidates in the Union territory of Puducherry and four states of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. As per the report, 14 winning candidates were not analysed due to unclear affidavit available on the ECI website at the time of making this report.
Among political parties, every winning candidate in Janadhipathiya Kerala Congress and Revolutionary Marxist Party of India have serious criminal charges, while 60 per cent of Pattali Makkal Katchi candidates are serious offenders. Meanwhile, in terms of numbers, Trinamool leads with 73 candidates with serious criminal charges followed by Bharatiya Janata Party with 49 candidates and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam with 42 winning candidates.

The State-wise analysis shows 39 per cent of winners in West Bengal are criminals, highest among 5 assemblies, followed by Kerala at 27 per cent and Tamil Nadu with 25 per cent.

Every winning candidate from Kerala Congress (M), Kerala Congress, NCP, JD(S), Kerala Congress (Jacob), Kerala Congress (B), Loktantrik Janta Dal, Indian National League, National Secular Conference, Janadhipathiya Kerala Congress were crorepatis. However it must be added that last six parties–Kerala Congress (Jacob), Kerala Congress (B), Loktantrik Janta Dal, Indian National League, National Secular Conference, Janadhipathiya Kerala Congress, have only one winning candidate each.
The highest number of crorepatis came from All India Trinamool Congress with 132 rich candidates followed by DMK with 114 crorepatis and BJP with 77 crorepatis who won the polls this time.
