Basavaraj Bommai to Take Oath as Karnataka CM Today

Soon after he was elected as the leader of the legislature party, he along with former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa went to Raj Bahwan and laid claim to form the government.

New Delhi: Newly elected Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will be sworn in as the new Chief Minister on Wednesday at 11 am. Bommai said that he had informed the Governor about his election as the leader of the legislature after which the Governor gave me an invitation to take oath as the new CM.

According to the Governor’s Office, the oath-taking ceremony will be held at Glass House in Raj Bhawan.

Bommai added that only he will take the oath which means that he will retain the entire Council of Ministers.

Soon after he was elected as the leader of the legislature party, he along with former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa went to Raj Bahwan and laid claim to form the government.

 Yediyurappa on Monday announced his resignation from the post of CM ending months of speculation after infighting in the state.

The Governor had accepted his resignation and dissolved the Council of Ministers but instructed him to continue as the Chief Minister until a suitable replacement is found

Bommai will be the 23rd CM of Karnataka.4

He was born on January 28, 1960, and belongs to the Sadara Lingayat community. Not only Bommai is a minister in the BSY government and a close confidante of the outgoing CM, but he also hails from the ‘janata pariwar’.

The 61-year-old comes from an enviable political lineage, he is the son of former Karnataka CM and Janata Dal leader SR Bommai.

Bommai began his political career and joined the BJP in 2008 and since then he has worked through the party ranks and held the portfolio of water resources and home ministry.

An engineer by profession, he previously has worked with the Tata group as well. Bommai is a two-time MLC and three-time MLA from Shiggaon in the Haveri district.
