Bulli Bai Case: Mumbai Court Sends Accused Shweta Singh, Mayank Into 14-Day Judicial Custody

Both the accused will file a bail plea in the Bandra court on Jan 17.

New Delhi: Two accused in the ‘Bulli Bai‘ App case Shweta Singh and Mayank Rawal- have been sent into 14-day judicial custody by a court in Mumbai. The accused who were apprehended in Uttrakhand on January 5, were sent to Mumbai Cyber Police custody till January 14 by the Bandra court on Monday. The court initially remanded Shweta Singh and Mayank Rawal to police custody till January 10.

“Accused Shweta Singh and Mayank’s Police custody ended today. Shweta was produced before the court while Mayank could not be due to testing positive for COVID, ” Mumbai Police official was quoted by ANI on Friday.

The police on Monday had sought further custody of Singh (18) and Rawal (21) and told the Bandra metropolitan magistrate that the probe into the case was at a crucial stage and hence, the interrogation of the accused was required.

As per Mayank’s lawyer, Sandeep Sherkhane, both the accused will file a bail plea in the Bandra court and the hearing on the matter will be held on the same day, January 17.

On Jan 10, the Mumbai court remanded another accused, Vishal Kumar Jha, who was the first to be arrested in the case from Bengaluru, to judicial custody till January 24 as he had tested positive for coronavirus.

Two other accused Niraj Bishnoi and Aumkerashwar Thakur are currently in Delhi police custody. Niraj was arrested from Assam’s Jorhat while Aumkerashwar was apprehended from Indore in Madhya Pradesh.

The alleged “mastermind” behind the creation of ‘Bulli Bai‘ app, Niraj Bishnoi, was suspended by the Madhya Pradesh-based engineering college, where he was a B Tech student, following his arrest.

Bishnoi, a student of the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Bhopal campus, was arrested on Thursday from Jorhat in Assam.

The 21-year-old is the “main conspirator” in the case and allegedly involved in creation of the controversial app that has listed hundreds of Muslim women for “auction”, the Assam police have said.

The VIT administration took action against Bishnoi soon after his involvement in the case came to light, the official said.

On January 9, the ‘Sulli Deals’ app creator Aumkerashwar Thakur was sent to 4-day police custody in Delhi. As per information from Delhi Police, all the accused were connected to each other virtually via chat rooms.
