New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said that the central government will pay the PF share of both the employer and the employee for people who lost their jobs but were reemployed in small scale jobs in formal sector in units that are registered under the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

She also announced that if more than 25,000 people hailing from a single district engaged in the informal sector return back to their native place, they will be provided with benefits under 16 employment schemes of the Union government.

Earlier in the day, she launched the third phase of the Mission Shakti in Lucknow which promotes safety, respect and self-reliance of women.

Sitharaman also lauded Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for creating an investment-friendly environment in the state.

Speaking at the event, she said, “There was a bit of hesitation when the defence corridor was announced for Uttar Pradesh as usually the industrial climate prevails in states like Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana and others”.

“Agriculture and the medium and small scale industries (MSME) were more important issues for the state in the past. However, the CM managed to change the environment in the state to make it more investment-friendly,” she added.

In 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ₹20,000 crore defence industrial corridor in Bundelkhand, one of the most backward region of state.

The corridor will have six nodes at Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Kanpur and Lucknow.

With these corridors, the government aims to make India self-reliant in the aerospace and the defence sector.

Meanwhile, the UP CM Adityanath announced that the state government will soon start the construction of Ganga Expressway from Meerut to Prayagaraj.

He announced that 93 per cent land required for the project had already been acquired and once completed it will become the backbone of the state’s economy.
