Ahead of the Yasin Malik’s sentence pronouncement in Patiala House Court in a terror funding case, clashes have erupted in the Maisuma locality of Srinagar, which is home to Malik. A hotbed of violence, tens of youth were seen pelting stones, and to contain the protest, the police had to fire the tear gas shells at the protestors.
A NIA court in Delhi on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik. Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Yasin Malik had previously pleaded guilty to all the charges, including those under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), in a terror funding case.
Earlier, before the judgment in the case of Jammu and Kashmir separatist leader Yasin Malik, his sister was seen reciting Quran at the window of her house. Meanwhile, women from the Maisuma area where Yasin Malik lives were seen sloganeering in favor of Malik and against India.
Malik is slated to receive a sentence from an NIA court in Delhi on Wednesday. On May 10, a special NIA court convicted the separatist leader and chief of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front after he pleaded guilty to all the charges, including those under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), before a Delhi court. The case is related to alleged terrorism and secessionist activities that disturbed the Kashmir valley in 2017, court sources said.
They said Malik told the court that he was not contesting the charges leveled against him including section 16 (terrorist act), 17 (raising funds for the terrorist act), 18 (conspiracy to commit terrorist act), and 20 (being a member of terrorist gang or organization) of the UAPA and sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 124-A (sedition) of the Indian Penal Code.
