Congress Punjab 1st List Out: Channi Gets Chamkaur Sahib, Sidhu Amritsar East

Deputy Chief Ministers Sukhjinder Randhawa will fight from the Dera Baba Nanak seat ticket, while Om Prakash Soni, state’s other Deputy Chief Minister, will fight the Assembly elections from Amritsar (Central).

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday released the first list of 86 candidates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for next month. As per the reports, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is will contest the assembly elections from his Chamkaur Sahib SC constituency, while the party’s state unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu will contest from the Amritsar East seat.

Deputy Chief Ministers Sukhjinder Randhawa will fight from the Dera Baba Nanak seat ticket, while Om Prakash Soni, state’s other Deputy Chief Minister, will fight the Assembly elections from Amritsar (Central).

The party has fielded Pratap Singh Bajwa to contest from Qadian while singer Sidhu Moosewala, the controversial Punjabi who joined the party recently, has been fielded to contest from Mansa, as per the statement. 

Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood’s sister Malvika Sood, who joined Congress a few days ago, will contest the election from Moga.

Rupinder Kaur, the AAP MLA who switched and joined Congress last year, has got the Malout constituency ticket. While, Minister Brahm Mohindra’s son Mohit will be contesting from the Patiala (rural) seat.

 Among the seats announced today for Punjab elections, the Congress has retained Gurpreet Singh for the Bassi Pathana Assembly constituency, which the Chief Minister wanted for his brother.

Meanwhile, Punjab will go to the polls on February 14 and the counting of votes will take place on March 10.

In the 2017 Assembly polls in the state, Congress won an absolute majority by winning 77 seats and ousted the SAD-BJP government after 10 years.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerged as the second-largest party winning 20 seats in 117-member Punjab Legislative Assembly. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) could only manage to win 15 seats while the BJP secured three seats.
