Coronavirus India Update: 3,62,727 new COVID-19 cases reported on May 13

New Delhi: After recording more than 4-lakh COVID cases for four consecutive day till Sunday, India reported more than 3,62,000 new infections in the last 24 hours.

New Delhi: After recording more than 4-lakh COVID cases for four consecutive day till Sunday, India reported more than 3,62,000 new infections in the last 24 hours. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare the country recorded 3,62,727 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday morning. A significant increase of nearly 12,000 cases was seen from a previous day high of 3,48,421 infections on May 12. 

These new COVID-19 cases has pushed the country’s total tally to 2,37,03,665 in the country as on May 13.

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, more than 4,100 deaths were reported in India. As per the ministry, as many as 4,120 mortalities were reported, an increase from previous day in the last 24 hours. On Wednesday, 4,205 deaths due to the novel coronavirus was reported. With more than 4,100 deaths the total death tally in the country rose to 2,58,317 lives lost to date.

The spurt in new cases crossed the 4-lakh mark in the country on April 30. The cases have been rising since mid-April and had crossed the 3 Lakh mark within a week. The new infections have been staying above 200,000-mark since April 15. The new cases have been increasing at an alarming pace since the country broke the one lakh case barrier on April 4 when it reported 1,03,558 new COVID-19 cases. Within a fortnight, the numbers have doubled, sounding alarm bells throughout the country as medical infrastructure, doctors and patients grapple with resource crunch.

 

On the recovery side, 3,52,181 discharges were recorded in the last 24 hours, Ministry of health data showed on Thursday morning. The data points that there was a slight decrease in discharges from the previous day. The total number of patients that have been discharged stood at 1,97,34,823 cases in the country on May 13.

The country also saw a slight increase in active cases from the previous day. From a total of 37,04,099 active cased logged on Wednesday, the country recorded 37,10,525 active cases on the early hours of Thursday.

On the vaccination front, a total of 17,72,14,256 doses have been administered in the country to date. India began its vaccination programme on January 16 and has begun its third phase of vaccine rollouts on May 1, for everyone who is above 18 years of age.
