Coronavirus India Update: 3,66,161 new cases, 3,754 deaths reported on May 10

New Delhi: After keeping the daily COVID numbers above the dangerous 4-lakh mark for four consecutive day in a row, India reported more than 3,66,000 new infections in the last 24 hours.

New Delhi: After recording more than 4-lakh COVID cases for four consecutive day in a row, India reported more than 3,66,000 new infections in the last 24 hours. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare the country recorded 3,66,161 new COVID-19 cases on Monday morning. A significant decrease of nearly 40,000 cases was seen from a previous day high of 4,03,738 infections on May 9. 

These new COVID-19 cases has pushed the country’s total tally to 2,26,62,575 in the country as on May 10.

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, more than 3,700 deaths were reported in India. As per the ministry, as many as 3,754 mortalities were reported, a decease from previous day in the last 24 hours. On Sunday, 4,092 deaths due to the novel coronavirus was reported. With more than 3,700 deaths the total death tally in the country rose to 2,46,116 lives lost to date.

The spurt in new cases crossed the 4-lakh mark in the country on April 30. The cases have been rising since mid-April and had crossed the 3 Lakh mark within a week. The new infections have been staying above 200,000-mark since April 15. The new cases have been increasing at an alarming pace since the country broke the one lakh case barrier on April 4 when it reported 1,03,558 new COVID-19 cases. Within a fortnight, the numbers have doubled, sounding alarm bells throughout the country as medical infrastructure, doctors and patients grapple with resource crunch.

On the recovery side, 3,53,818 discharges were recorded in the last 24 hours, Ministry of health data showed on Monday morning. The data points that there was a significant increase in discharges from the previous day. The total number of patients that have been discharged stood at 1,86,71,222 cases in the country on May 10.

The country also saw an increase in active cases from the previous day. From a total of 36,45,164 active cased logged on Sunday, the country recorded 37,45,237 active cases on the early hours of Monday.

On the vaccination front, a total of 17,01,76,603 doses have been administered in the country to date. India began its vaccination programme on January 16 and has begun its third phase of vaccine rollouts on May 1, for everyone who is above 18 years of age.
