New Delhi: India recorded 62,480 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday (June 18).
88,977 discharges and 1,587 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, as per the Ministry. The total caseload stands at 2,97,62,793 while the active cases are 7,98,656, which remain below 8 lakh after 73 days.
On the recovery front, there were a total of 2,85,80,647 discharges. Daily recoveries continue to outnumber the Daily New Cases for the 36th consecutive day. The death toll is at 3,83,490.
Recovery Rate increases to 96.03%. Weekly Positivity Rate remains below 5%, currently at 3.80% while Daily positivity rate is at 3.24%, less than 5% for 11 consecutive days.
On the vaccination front, a total of 26,89,60,399 doses have been administered so far.
A total of 38,7167,696 samples were tested up to June 17. Of these, 19,29,476 samples were tested yesterday, as per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
The new infections had stayed above 200,000-mark since April 15. The new cases have been increasing at an alarming pace since the country broke the one lakh case barrier on April 4 when it reported 1,03,558 new COVID-19 cases.
Within a fortnight, the numbers doubled, which sounding alarm bells throughout the country as medical infrastructure, doctors and patients grapple with resource crunch. India had crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4.
