New Delhi: India continues to report less than 1 lakh daily new cases of the novel coronavirus cases, for the fourth consecutive day on Friday (June 11, 2021). According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the country recorded 91,702 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The cases were down by 2, 350 new infections as compared to the previous day when 94,052 Covid-19 cases reported on Thursday.
The lowest tally was recorded on June 8 when 86,498 new cases were recorded.
The drop in new cases took the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 2,92,74,823 cases on Friday, while the total number of active infections stood at 11,21,671 cases.
The country saw discharges outnumbering new Covid-19 cases on Friday as well, as 1,34,580 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. The numbers fell from 1,51,367 discharges on June 10.
The total number of patients discharged so far stood at 2,77,90,073 cases, as of Friday.
The major cause of worry for India remains the death toll. As many as 3,403 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll of the country to 3,63,079 cases, as of Friday. Yesterday, was the highest single-day death reported within 24 hours.
On the vaccination front, 24,60,85,649 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered so far in the country, the ministry data showed on June 11 morning. Out of these, 33,79,261 doses were given in the last 24 hours.
A total of 37,01,93,563 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the country, up to June 10 including 19,85,967 samples tested yesterday, data from the Indian Council of Medical Research showed.
The new infections had stayed above 200,000-mark since April 15. The new cases have been increasing at an alarming pace since the country broke the one lakh case barrier on April 4 when it reported 1,03,558 new COVID-19 cases.
Within a fortnight, the numbers doubled, which sounding alarm bells throughout the country as medical infrastructure, doctors and patients grapple with resource crunch. India had crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4.
