Coronavirus India Update: New Cases Below 1-Lakh for Third Consecutive Day With Just Over 94,000 New Infections

New Delhi: India continues to report less than 1 lakh daily new cases of the novel coronavirus cases, for the third consecutive day on Thursday (June 10, 2021). According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the country recorded 94,052 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The cases rose by 1,456 new infections as compared to the previous day when 92,596 new cases were reported on Wednesday. The lowest tally was recorded on June 8 when 86,498 new cases were recorded.

The slight spike in new cases took the total number of Covid-19 infections in the country to 2,91,83,121 cases on Thursday, while the total number of active infections stood at 11,67,952 cases.

The country saw discharges outnumbering new Covid-19 cases on Thursday as well, as 1,51,367 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. The numbers though promising did show a drop from the previous day’s 1,62,664 discharges on June 9.

The total number of patients discharged so far stood at 2,76,55,493 cases, as of Thursday.

The major cause of worry for India remains the death toll. As many as 6,148 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total death toll of the country to 3,59,676 cases, as of Thursday. This was the highest single-day death reported within 24 hours.

On the vaccination front, 23,90,58,360 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered so far in the country, the ministry data showed on June 10 morning. Out of these, 33,79,261 doses were given in the last 24 hours.

A total of 37,21,98,253  samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the country, up to June 9 including 20,04,690 samples tested yesterday, data from the Indian Council of Medical Research showed.

The new infections had stayed above 200,000-mark since April 15. The new cases have been increasing at an alarming pace since the country broke the one lakh case barrier on April 4 when it reported 1,03,558 new COVID-19 cases.

Within a fortnight, the numbers doubled, which sounding alarm bells throughout the country as medical infrastructure, doctors and patients grapple with resource crunch. India had crossed the grim milestone of two crore on May 4.
