New Delhi: India on Friday (June 18) crossed the 26.8 crore figure in vaccination doses across the country according to the date of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. A total of 26,89,60,399 vaccine doses have been administered till 7 am on June 17. Out of this, 32,59,003 doses were given in the last 24 hours alone, lower than the previous day’s tally of 34,63,961 doses administered

The liberalised and accelerated phase-3 strategy of COVID-19 vaccination has come into force from May 1, 2021 after which everyone above the age of 18 was eligible to receive a vaccine shot.

Out of the total doses administered till the early hours of June 18, 21,88,73,616 received the first dose beneficiaries while 5,00,86,783 were second dose beneficiaries. Out of the 32,59,003 doses administered in India in the last 24 hours, 28,54,220 people received the first jab of the coronavirus vaccine. Meanwhile, 4,04,783 people got the second jab of the vaccine yesterday.

The figure shows the second dose recipients numbers have gone up, while first-time vaccinators were lower than previous day figures.

Maharashtra was the top state in number 0f vaccinations at 2,69,23,548 (2,15,51,329 first dose and 53,72,219 second dose) followed by Uttar Pradesh at 2,46,15,054 (2,06,67,368 first dose and 39,47,686 second dose) and Gujarat at 2,12,98,606 (1,65,98,184 first dose and 47,00,422 second dose).

India began its vaccination drive on January 16 after the government approved Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Oxford’s Covishield for emergency use.

In the first phase of the drive, health and frontline workers were vaccinated followed by people above the age of 60.

India’s COVID-19 Tally

India recorded 62,480 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, as per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Friday (June 18).

As many as 88,977 discharges were reported in the last 24 hours, as per the Health Ministry on Friday. The total caseload stood at 2,97,62,793 while the active cases were 7,98,656, infections which remains below 8 lakh after 73 days. India reported 1,587 deaths in the last 24 hours, the data showed.
