COVID-19: 60,000 doses of Sputnik V arrive in India in second batch

The first batch of the 1.5 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses had arrived in the country on May 1. One dose of imported COVID-19 Sputnik V vaccine will cost Rs 995.40.

Hyderabad, Telangana: The second consignment of the SputnikV vaccine that arrived in India on Sunday (May 16, 2021) contained 60,000 doses, Dr Reddy’s Laboratory informed.

“Pleased to share that the consignment that arrived today in Hyderabad contains 60,000 doses of the second dose component of the #SputnikV vaccine. Samples from the consignment will be sent for release to the Central Drugs Laboratory,” the Indian partner of the Russian vaccine manufacturer tweeted.

Dr Reddy Laboratories on Friday (May 14) announced that one dose of imported COVID-19 Sputnik V vaccine will cost Rs 995.40. This makes it the costliest vaccine in India as compared to Covishield which is manufactured by the Serum Institute and Covaxin which is being made by Bharat Biotech.

“The imported doses of the vaccine are presently priced at an MRP of Rs 948 + 5 per cent GST per dose, with the possibility of a lower price point when local supply begins,” Dr Reddy’s Laboratories had said in a statement.

The company also vaccinated its first beneficiary in Hyderabad on the same day. The first batch of the 1.5 lakh COVID-19 vaccine doses had arrived in the country on May 1. The second batch of the Sputnik V landed in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Russian Ambassador to India, Nikolay Kudashev on Sunday termed the Russian-Indian fight against COVID-19, as an example of the special and privileged strategic partnership and an effective model of international anti-pandemic cooperation. Sputnik V has become the first foreign-made vaccine to be used in India contributing to the world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
