Covid-19: Delhi Schools Won’t Reopen as Third Wave Imminent, Says Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said that schools will not reopen in the national capital anytime soon, reported PTI. This came on the same day when Delhi reported 72 new Covid-19 cases and one death. The positivity rate in the national capital slumped to 0.10 per cent.

Kejriwal said that there was a danger of an impending second wave of Covid-19 and he was not going to risk the safety of the children.

Haryana which adjoins Delhi has announced that it will reopen schools after cases in the state declined.

Official data also showed that all the districts in the national capital reported a positivity rate of less than one per cent with some districts even reporting no cases on some days,.

“No, going by international trends, the third wave (of Covid infections) will come. So we will not put children at risk till the vaccination of the whole population is completed,” the Chief Minister said while addressing the media.

For the past two weeks Delhi has been reporting under 100 cases and the number of deaths has been in single digits.

At its peak, Delhi had reported over 20,00 new cases and over 400 deaths on a single day.
