New Delhi: Covid-19 cases in Kerala remained over 20,000 for the fourth consecutive day as the state continued to rise in the state. The state reported 20,772 new cases in the past 24 hours, according to the Department of Health with the Test Positivity Rate (TPR) climbing to 13.61 per cent. With these additions, the total number of cases reported rose to 33,70,137
14,651 recoveries were reported in the same period which took the total tally to 31,92,104.
The state recorded 116 fatalities with the cumulative deaths rising to 16,701, the state government said.
In the last 24 hours, 1,52,639 samples were tested taking the total samples tested to 2,70,49,431.
Active cases in the state currently stand at 1,60,824.
Malappuram is the worst affected district with 3670 cases followed by Kozhikode (2470), Ernakulam (2306), Thrissur (2287), Palakkad (2070), Kollam (1415), Alappuzha (1214), Kannur (1123), Thiruvananthapuram (1082) and Kottayam (1030).
Out of the total cases reported, 81 were health workers while 137 were reported in people who came from outside the state.
Authorities were able to trace 19,622 cases with the source of infection for the rest 932 cases remaining unclear.
There are currently 4,56,951 people under surveillance in various districts of the state.
Of these, 4,29,118 are in-home or institutional quarantine and 27,833 in hospitals.
There are 678 areas in the state with a TPR of above 10 per cent, the release said.
Meanwhile, India recorded more than 44,000 cases on Friday after infections surged above 40,000 cases for two continuous days. As per the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, 44,230 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
New infections had dipped below 30,000 daily cases after 132 days on Tuesday (July 27).
As per the Ministry, the outpatient tally also improved from 41,678 to 42,360 patients who recovered in the last 24 hours. The death toll came below 600-mark with 555 deaths on Friday but stayed above Tuesday’s tally of 415 mortalities.
